When my sons left home to seek higher education they not only had to face the challenge of adjusting to a new norm of life but also of missing out on tasty and nutritious home cooked food.
So, I looked for options to help overcome the food issue and by accident stumbled upon a process called Freeze Drying. I learned that food when freeze dried retained 98% of its nutritional value and without the aid of chemical preservatives could be, with the right packaging, presevered for a very long time .
So I set out to invest in a small, but expensive machine and tried a few Indian dishes. After several months of perfecting the recipes, carefully measuring ingredients and testing different freeze-drying techniques to ensure best of flavor and texture, I had a range of dishes that I was proud of. These included butter chicken masala, chicken tikka masala, mixed vegetables, palak curry, mushroom masala curry, dal makhani and rice pilaf.
While my sons loved these instant food packets, other children and parents approached us to find how they can also get them.
We shared our innovative product with friends and family, who were awed by the quality and convenience of the meals. They encouraged us to turn my idea into a business, and so we launched our brand ‘Desi Fresh’ cooking smart.
At first, it was slow going, with us selling packets at local markets and thru word of mouth. But as more people tried our meals and shared them on social media, the demand grew.
Now Desi Fresh is a thriving business, selling our packets of delicious Indian meals all over the country. Our products are popular with busy families, students, campers and anyone looking for a quick and easy meal that still tastes like it was made from scratch.
We are proud to have created a product that helps people enjoy the taste of home-made Indian meals, even when they don’t have the time or energy to cook.
We are grateful for the support of our community and excited to see what the future holds for Desi Fresh.
